Out of State Volunteer Clearance Requirements

Ways to meet the PA Volunteer Requirements

The PA Department of Human Services requires that anyone volunteering with children in PA have background clearances completed and on file with the organization they are volunteering with.

Please refer the options below to see which option is best for you:

Option 1:

If you are able to obtain your states required clearances for working with children, the state of PA will allow those documents in lieu of their clearances. WE MUST RECEIVE A COPY OF THE ACTUAL DOCUMENT, NOT JUST NUMBERS.

Most states require:

  • State Criminal Clearance
  • State Child Abuse Registry Clearance
  • FBI Criminal Fingerprint Clearance

*Documents must be dated and not older than 3 years.

Option 2:

Complete the following PA background checks and then follow the instructions on how to obtain an FBI Clearance in your state.

You will need to complete the following:

  • PA Criminal Clearance
  • PA Child Abuse Clearance
  • FBI Clearance- instructions below on how to complete in your state

Option 3: If possible, we recommend this option.

Compete the required documents as a PA Resident and plan to travel to Pennsylvania and complete the fingerprinting as a PA Resident Volunteer.
